Indonesia Passes International Financial Centres Law to Strengthen Global Investment Ambitions
JAKARTA, Indonesia — July 25, 2026 — Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) has officially passed the International Financial Centres (IFC) Law, marking a significant milestone in the country’s strategy to position itself as a leading financial and investment hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The legislation was approved during a plenary session in Jakarta and establishes the legal framework for the creation of International Financial Centres (IFCs)—special economic zones designed to attract global financial institutions, multinational corporations, and international investors.
The newly enacted law introduces a range of tax incentives, streamlined regulatory procedures, and other business-friendly measures intended to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness in global finance while supporting sustainable economic growth.
A major feature of the IFC Law is the establishment of specialized arbitration institutions and dedicated courts to handle commercial and financial disputes arising within the designated financial centres. Lawmakers expect these mechanisms to provide greater legal certainty, faster dispute resolution, and increased confidence for international investors.
Legal experts have described the dispute resolution framework as one of the law’s most important innovations. Specialized institutions are expected to improve the handling of complex cross-border financial cases while maintaining judicial independence, transparency, and the rule of law.
Analysts, however, note that the law’s effectiveness will depend largely on the implementation of supporting regulations, institutional preparedness, regulatory consistency, and strong governance. The success of the initiative will also require coordination among government agencies and the financial sector.
The passage of the IFC Law represents one of Indonesia’s most ambitious legal and economic reforms in recent years. As implementation begins, governments, investors, multinational businesses, and legal professionals around the world are expected to closely monitor its impact on Indonesia’s investment climate and its role in the global financial system.
